Napier-Reid: Water Treatment Units in Innisfil

Water Treatment Units in Innisfil
Napier-Reid treats lake water for use as potable water in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada.

The Lake Shore Water Treatment Plant in Innisfil uses water from Lake Simcoe. Constructed in 1996 with three filtration trains supplied by Napier-Reid, it had been built to supply drinking water to a population of 13,500. In 2005, the phase 2 expansion started and was designed to increase the daily water supply from 11,543m3/day to 28,377m3/day. Another two filtration trains were required to support the expansion.

The Treatment Process
Napier-Reid provided the two new 316 stainless steel filtration trains. Each train consists of an upflow pre-treatment adsorption clarifier with coarse gravel media, and a multi-media polishing filter.

Each pre-treatment adsorption clarifier has a 42 m3 clarifier chamber for a contact time of 10 minutes at the design flow, a media retaining screen assembly, raw water and air distribution headers, and roughing filter media, providing flocculation and clarification.

Each polishing filter has an 80 m3 filter chamber, an underdrain system, an air scour header, and media including anthracite, silica sand, garnet sand and gravel with a media depth of 0.85 metres.

We also provided valves, instruments and controls for the entire treatment process.
